Bat Care

Taking good care of your bat is paramount in the longevity of the bat. You have an investment in one of our products and we want to make sure that you get your money's worth.

Here are some tips:

  • Only use baseballs with your wood bat. Just like any other type of bat, dimpled balls that come out of a machine tend to wreak havoc on wood.
  • When in a game or taking BP, the most common way to break a bat is to swing at an inside pitch and hit the ball with the handle. This will break just about any wood bat, regardless of the brand.  Bottom line, if you are going to swing at an inside pitch, get the bat turned over and put the barrel on the ball.
  • Avoid leaving your bat inside a car on hot, humid days. Even though the bat has a protective polyurethane coat, moisture will still find a way in and make the bat heavier.
  • Do not drop the bat on cement or bang it against any hard surfaces like steel or cleats. This is a good way to chip the polyurethane and expose the bat finish to the elements.
  • Keep your bat clean. Window cleaner does a nice job making the bat all shiny again.  Do not use abrasive cleaners or you could cloud the polyurethane coating.
  • When in the cages or in the dugout, when it is time to pick up balls, lean your bat upright against the netting or place it in your bat bag. Many a wood bat has been snapped when a teammate steps on it after the coach yells out “pick ‘em up”.
  • Of course, swing “label up”.

We hope that these tips are helpful. It is our objective that you have a great experience with your Orion bat.
